The Hippies Go West

Kalamazoo’s People’s Food Co-op is moving.

Currently located in downtown Kalamazoo, the 36-year-old community-owned grocery store is looking toward a brighter future in a more auto-friendly location.

The new venue will be a spot of land on Harrison Street on Kalamazoo’s Northside. Right down the street is MacKenzies’ Bakery, another staple of Kalamazoo’s urban revitalization movement.

Also similar to MacKenzies’, People’s Food Co-op is benefiting from a City of Kalamazoo program to recycle dirty land into shiny new commercial properties. The $1.7-Million project is a collaboration with the city’s Brownfield Redevelopment Authority.

PFC says they’re still hammering out the details. You can check their progress at their web site: http://www.peoplesfoodco-op.org/expansion.php
