“Why Kalamazoo?”

That’s what I wonder whenever I meet someone from far away. “You’re from Costa Rica? You have a doctorate in nuclear physics? You’re secretly a multi-millionaire pilot rock star? How the heck did you come to be here?”

It’s not that Kalamazoo is a bad place to be. But there are bigger towns and certainly places with more opportunities than here. And yet people come. And they stay.

And, I guess I count myself among those. I was born in Toronto, I have dual citizenship, I’ve lived in three countries and six states … and yet here I am.

So that’s the point of this blog: Why Kalamazoo? What is it that draws people here and what compels them to stay. I hope to fill this up with interesting stories of various locals, highlights of things happening around town and basically anything else that piques my interest.
